6/4 vs. Durham Game Notes

VS. DA BULLS: The Bats went 1-3 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in early May and are 1-2 at home. The Bats are hitting .249 against the Bulls this season and .227 against the rest of the league. Last year the Bats went 5-3 against the Bulls and 2-2 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The last four times that Louisville has made the playoffs they have been defeated by Durham.

DOT, DIGGITY: The seven runs last night is the most in a game by the Bats since they won at LHV, 7-3, on 5/20. Their season-high for runs in a game is nine (4x) …Neftali Soto ranks second in the IL with 213 at-bats and Kristopher Negron ranks third with 212…Negron is third in the IL with 15 stolen bases, eight behind GWN’s Luis Durango Soto leads the IL with 11 GIDP…LHP Jeff Francis leads the IL in innings pitched (77.1) and is tied for third in strikeouts with 65Francis leads the league in hits allowed with 84, batters faced with 319, and is tied for the lead in starts with 12.…As a team, the Bats’ are last in the IL with a .230avg and and 12th in era at 4.42…LOU is 13th in the IL with a .211avg w/ RISP, DUR is last at .206…The Bats are 12-13 when their starter records a quality start…The Bats are 14-21 against teams starting a RHP and 4-18 against LHP…LOU is 7-31 when their opponent scores first …Their opponent has scored first in 38 of 57 games… They are 7-29 when being outhit by their opponent and 10-5 when outhitting their oppenent… The Bats have used four or more pitchers in 37 of 57 games (2 pitchers: 5x, 5: 8x, 6: 2x, 7: 1x)…The Bats have walked the third-most batters in the IL (226) and have a 1.73 k/bb ratio (390k-226bb).

ON THE MOUND: RHP Chad Reineke makes his 11th start of the season for the Bats and will be opposed by RHP Shane Dyer. Last time out on 5/27 vs. IND he went a season-high 7.0 innings and allowed just one run in a no-decision. The Bats eventually lost the game 9-4 as the bullpen allowed eight runs in two innings of work. Five of his ten starts have been quality starts but the Bats are just 2-8 when he takes the hill. The Bats are averaging 3.7 runs when he starts. Reineke went 9-7 with a 3.84 era in 25 games (22 starts) with the Bats last season. He appeared in two games last year with CIN, making one start (5/31 vs. MIL, L, 6.1ip, 5h, 6r-5er, 5bb-2k, 2hr).

SHUT EM’ OUT: Yesterday afternoon LHP Jeff Francis threw a complete game shutout against the Bulls (9.0ip, 7h, 0r-0er, 1bb-4k). It was the first shutout of any kind for the Bats this season and they were the last team in the IL to record a shutout. IND, GWN and LHV lead the league with seven each. The last shutout for the Bats was a 7-inning game on 6/6g1/11 at COL (Dontrelle Willis, Jerry Gil, Nick Christiani) and their last 9-inning shutout was 5/8/11 at BUF (Matt Maloney, Daniel Rey Herrera, David Johnson). The last complete game was Edinson Volquez on 7/22/11 vs. CHA (9.0ip, 5h, 2r-2er, 0bb-9k). The last Bat to throw a complete game shutout was Sam LeCure on 5/12/10 vs. SWB (9.0ip, 1h, 0r-0er, 2bb-5k). Francis has six complete game and five shutouts in his career. He has three Minor League shutouts and two Major League shutouts. His last complete game came on 5/14/11 vs. DET while with KC (L, 8.0ip, 7h, 3r-3er, 1bb-4k). His last shutout was on 8/29/07 at SF, while he was a member of the Colorado Rockies (9.0ip, 6h, 0r-0er, 1bb-3k).

LEATHERVILLE: The Bats lead the IL with a fielding percentage of .985 and have a league-low 32 errors, which is seven less than IND and SWB, who have the league’s second lowest error numbers at 39. The Bats are the only team in the IL to not commit at least three errors in a single game. Their team-high for errors in a game is two and they have done that six times. The Bats have played 31 errorless games and are 12-19.

JOEY GATHRIIIIGHHTT: OF Joey Gathright has hit in every game since joining the Bats on 5/24. His nine-game hitting streak is the longest streak of the season for a Bat, surpassing Kristopher Negron (5/10-5/17) and Neftali Soto (4/25-5/3) who had eight-game streaks. Yesterday afternoon Gathright went 3-for-4 with a double and a season-high three RBI. It was his second multi-hit game of the year. The other multi-hit performance was a three-hit game on 5/29 vs. SYR (3-5, 2RBI). He is batting .382 (13-for-34) with two doubles and  6rbi.

DORN AGAIN: IF/OF Danny Dorn has recorded a hit in 12 of his last 14 games and all 12 of his last starts. During that stretch he is hitting .346 (18-52) with seven doubles, a home run and three RBI. He has raised his average from .174 to .225 in the last 14 games. With 86 career doubles as a Bat, he ranks third on the all-time list.

RISPY BUSINESS: The Bats were 5-for-14 with RISP last night and raised their average from .207 to .211 in the process. In their previous 11 games, nine of which were losses, the Bats hit .153 (15-98) w/ RISP and have left 90 runners on base. LOU has scored a run in 17 of their last 102 innings.
