• VS. THE CLIP SHOW: The Bats are 4-4 against Columbus in 2012 and 1-3 at Huntington Park. They went 12-9 overall and 3-7 vs. the Clippers at Huntington Park in 2011. Tonight’s game is the first of 13 remaining meetings between the teams, seven of which will be in Columbus. The two teams have combined to win the last four IL West Division Crowns, with the Bats taking top honors in 2008, 2009, and 2010, and COL taking the division in 2011.
• LAST NIGHT: J.J. Hoover recorded his first save since 4/16 vs. COL. Sunday marked just the seventh time LOU has beaten a team starting a LHP and 15th time they have won when their opponent scored first. Pedro Villarreal allowed just 1er in 7.0ip in picking up his first win since 5/20 at LHV. With the win yesterday, LOU is now 20-19 when their pitcher records a quality start. LOU took three of four from GWN for just their third home series win of the year (3-1, 4/13-4/16 vs. COL; 4-0, 6/18-6/21 vs. SWB) and fourth series win overall. The win also gave LOU their first winning homestand of the season (4-3) and their second winning streak of three games or more.
• DOT, DIGGITY: The Bats hit .351 (54-for-154) and scored 40 runs in the four-game series with GWN… Henry Rodriguez, Didi Gregorius and Xavier Paul are hitting a combined .361 w/ LOU, both scoring and knocking in 13 runs… The Bats are 12-42 when being outhit by their oppopent and 22-8 when outhitting their oppenent… Dioner Navarro leads the league with six sacrifice flies… Travis Webb’s 38 games are tied with Fernando Cabrera of BUF for the most among IL pitchers … As a team, the Bats are last in IL with their .244avg and 13th with their 4.50era.… LOU is 13th in the IL with a .233avg w/ RISP, percentage points ahead of BUF.…The Bats are 29-35 against teams starting a RHP and 7-25 against LHP… LOU is 15-49 when their opponent scores first. Their opponent has scored first in 64 of 96 games… The Bats have used 4 or more pitchers in 72 of 96 games (1 pitcher: 1x, 2: 9x, 3: 14x, 4: 54x, 5: 14x, 6: 2x, 7: 2x)… Bats pitchers are tied w/ TOL for the IL lead in walks (384) and have a 1.71 k/bb ratio (655k/384bb).
• ON THE MOUND: LHP Ryan Feierabend makes his seventh start of the season for the Bats and will be opposed by LHP Chris Seddon. He suffered the loss his last time out on 7/4 at IND, going just 4.0ip and allowing 4er on 6h with 3k. On 6/24 at PAW, he picked up his first win as a Bat, allowing just one hit and no runs in a season-high seven innings. It marked his only quality start of the season for the Bats. The Bats are 2-4 in his six starts. His era was 14.54 after his first start with the Bats and has been reduced it to 6.23. The Reds purchased his contract from the York Revolution of the Independent Atlantic League on 6/7. He was 3-2 with a 3.24era in seven starts with York. Between 2006-2008 with the Seattle Mariners, he went 2-11 with a 7.22era, starting in 19 of his 25 appearances. Before joining the Bats he had a career Triple-A record of 27-20 with a 4.37era in 77g (72 starts) over parts of four seasons with Tacoma (SEA) and Lehigh Valley (PHI). He spent all of the 2011 season with Lehigh Valley, going 10-8 with a 5.39era in 28 appearances.
