Mark Sheldon: Lewis’ injury could open door for Francisco

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Outfielder Fred Lewis, who is seeking the final open roster spot on the bench, injured his right side during Saturday’s game and was to be seen by a doctor on Sunday.
That could pave the way for third-base prospect Juan Francisco to make the 25-man roster. Francisco played right field in a Minor League game on Saturday and got the start at first base on Sunday in a big league game. Plus, the Reds are concerned about having protection in the infield.
“We’ve got a situation where we might need Francisco to back up [Scott] Rolen, especially with cold weather,” Reds manager Dusty Baker said. “We’re trying to get Scotty and [Edgar] Renteria and these guys through the cold weather.
